Dr Fowzia pays rich tribute to Ruth Pfau

Karachi: Epilepsy Foundation of Pakistan and Aafiyat Welfare Trust Present, Aafia Movement Pakistan leader and noted neurophysician of the country Dr Fowzia Siddiqui here Thursday condoled on the demise of famed leprosy activist Dr Ruth Pfau and her services for ailing humanity would be remembered for long.

She said Dr. Ruth Katherina Martha Pfau, a Pakistani doctor of German origin was known in whole world for her noble services. She was the recipient of Hilal e Pakistan and Nishan e Quaid e Azam Award. Her 50-year long struggle against leprosy in Pakistan is a heroic tale and bacon of light for other social workers.

She spent her life serving the leprosy patients in a society where illogical myths are related to this disease and where the patients of this disease are generally avoided by common people. She said though this disease is completely treatable but it is still considered dreaded disease and few people are willing to marry female patients of leprosy. She said Dr Pfau is our national hero. She left her country and came to Pakistan where she served the leprosy patients for 50 long years.

Dr Fowzia said we should also follow the zeal of Dr Ruth, adding the Epilepsy Foundation of Pakistan has been formed under the same spirit to serve the ailing humanity.
