2 Policemen killed in garget killing incident

QUETTA: Two police men were killed in afresh act of target killing here Thursday.

It is third incident of target killing of policemen in a week in which so far four policemen have been killed and two injured.

According to details armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on policemen on duty at fly over along Zarghoon (double) road here today. Two policemen Mohammad Ilyas and Shaukat died instantly. Another Javaid sustained serious injuries. He was shifted to hospital.

Firing was made from 9 mm pistol. Police reached the scene and cordoned area to start investigation.

Earlier RRG policemen came under fire in which one died and another injured Three days earlier a traffic police policeman was killed in target killing. No arrest was made in this regard yet.

Balochistan Governor Mohammad Khan Achakzai has also condemned incidents of target killing here today.

GOVERNOR: In his message Governor strongly condemned these incidents while expressing deep grief and sorrow over killing of two female polio workers and two polio men.

Governor hoped that government would take measures for security of all citizens and law enforcement institutions would take immediate and effective measures to stop recurrence of such incidents. He said sacrifices of police martyrs would not go waste for security to life and property of people.

He said such coward attack of terrorism in which women lost their lives who were busy in providing life to others. It is strongly condemnable. It is not attack on two polio women but attack on healthy future of four children.

He also expressed solidarity with relatives of polio mother and her daughter and said that ever one in the province shares their grief. He assured that law enforcement agencies would shortly nab accused.

Chief Minister said we cannot sit with closed eyes on the incident of target killing. Meaningful action against Security forces and polio workers target killing and elements, their facilitators and safe haven involved.

He expressed these views while speaking at an hurriedly called high level meeting in the background of target killing of policemen and female polio workers here Thursday.

Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti, Secretary Home, IG Police, Commissioner Quetta Division, FC, Intelligence agencies and police officers were also present. He said what previous governments di we have no concern but we have come for better change. If we cannot provide secure atmosphere and security to their life and property then there is no use of this change.

Chief Minister warned District Police officers and deputy Commissioners to pay attention on establishing peace and security to life and property of people instead of receiving bhatta (extortion) from check posts and chains. He said in case of such complaints concerned SSP and District Police officers would be dealt with iron hands. He said incident of target killing and terrorism taking place in any area police officer, DC, DSP and SHOs would be held responsible for this.

He said we would provide all resources to increase performance of police and Levies and they would be freed from political pressure. Free hand would be given for postings and transfers but we would seek results from them.

He said target killing of innocent particularly women is against shariah, social traditions and morale and elements involved are enemies of humanity. He said we are fighting against enemies who are hidden and they attack hidden. Therefore with effective security measures access to their hideouts is also very much necessary. He said we have to provide security to our people and our city with elimination ofterrorists. Therefore police and law enforcement agencies should take measures on common strategy on war footings. If we have to curtail development budget we would do it to provide resources to the police.

Abdul Quddus Bizenjo referring to delayed Quetta Safe City project for immediate start of implementation ofthe project and said he would personally monitor this project. He ordered for immediatesuspension of SHO Shalkot Police Station.

He also directed for financial assistance to their family of polio workers and full assistance.

Earlier IG Police apprised Chief Minister on details of incidentsof target killing, their recurrence.

Jamhoori Watan Party leader Gohram Bugti while strongly condemning target killing of FC, police and polio workers said that in past two days three policemen and two polio workers have been martyred mercilessly in Quetta.

He said provincial government is no more. We share grief of those martyred. He said nation is proud of sacrifices of police and FC for peace in Quetta.
