383 students conferred degrees at Ziauddin University convocation

KARACHI: The Ziauddin University awarded 383 degrees to the graduating students for various disciplines at the 14th convocation, held at the Expo Centre, here on Thursday.

The university awarded Sir Ziauddin Ahmed Academic Excellence gold medals to the nine top position holders. The medal recipients included Mohammad Shariq (Dental Surgery), Taliya Karim (Bio Medical), Mirza Omer Baig (Media Sciences), Aiesha (Medical Technology), Zinnia Mohsin (Speech Language Therapy), Hina Murad (Generic), Zoya Jabeen (Physical Therapy), Hareem Arif (MBBS) and Urooj Sheikh (Pharm.D).

Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah addressing the 14th Convocation of Ziauddin University as chief guest, congratulated the graduating students and their families. He acknowledged their success by stating that their accomplishment should be a source of pride not only to them but also to their university and indeed the country. The spirit that has inspired their achievements illustrates their dynamism, vitality and enthusiasm and we all are inspired by their success.

He motivated the graduates as power of youth in the country and said you are the stewards of this nation and custodian of very rich tradition of antiquity with modernization. As we march towards becoming a developed nation, your role as youth of the country, become increasingly important.

He expressed full confidence and advised the students that all of you will strive hard not only to achieve your goals but also make this country a better living place.

He complimenting the pioneers of Ziauddin University stated that the type of quality education provided by Ziauddin University in various professional fields is highly commendable. Dr Sir Ziauddin Ahmed’s daughter Dr Aijaz Fatima, her husband Dr Tajammul Hussain (Late), Dr Asim Hussain and their family deserve all commendation for establishing Ziauddin University and state of art hospitals to perpetuate the memory of the great champion.

Chairman Higher Education Commission, Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, congratulated the recipients of degrees and praised the efforts of Ziauddin University and its faculty for training students at par with international standards.

He emphasized students that our real struggle should be for making Pakistani society knowledge based society, which is considered to be most important for sustainable development in the country. He believes that education can be the change factor for this nation and the students can be the change makers.

Chancellor of Ziauddin University, Dr Asim Hussain, his message on the occasion said that today is the moment to celebrate and honor the effort and accomplishment of our students and those who have taught and nourished them. I wish and hope that you will carry forward the legacy of Ziauddin University, and succeed in your future endeavors. “I invite you to continue your association with Ziauddin to which you have devoted so much time, hard work and energy”, he addressed students.

He congratulated the parents for what they have contributed to their children’s education, and also congratulated the degree holders for working hard to enhance their academic skills and leadership qualities.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor of Ziauddin University, Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, in his welcome address informed that at this convocation 383 students will be conferred degrees. Since the inception of Ziauddin University more than 2,000 students have graduated and were doing well in serving the nation and abroad. All the academic programs of Ziauddin University are accredited by the respective professional accrediting bodies and by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

He advised the graduating students to always bear in mind that you have taken the oath to abide by professional ethics and will always be ready to serve humanity, speak truthfully and practice your profession without prejudice for religion, nationality, race, political or social standing.
