May 9, 2018

KARACHI: A Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan said on Wednesday that 3 in 4 Pakistanis (75%) opine that the hike in dollar rate would increase inflation in the country.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces, who answered in the affirmative regarding knowing about the recent hike in dollar rate, was further asked, “Some people believe that the hike in dollar rate and the devaluing of Pakistani rupee would increase inflation; yet some others say it would reduce inflation. Some also say that it will not make any difference. What is your opinion about it?” In response to this question, 75% said it would increase inflation, 14% said it would reduce inflation, 10% said it won’t make any difference and 1% did not know or wish to respond.

The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 785 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, March 25- April 02, 2018. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
