CHK’s Accident & Emergency Deptt treated 20% more patients in 2016


KARACHI: About 356,728 patients were brought to Accident & Emergency Department of the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) in 2016, showing 20% increase as compared to the year 2015, according to PPI survey on Wednesday.

The annual statistics released by CHK showed that last year, almost 20% more patients were brought to A&E Department as compared to 2015. There were four emergency section in the hospital including A&E Department, Burns Emergency, Gynae/Obs Emergency and Pediatric Emergency where 558,139 patients were brought for treatment. Around 356,728 patients were brought to A&E Department, 3,639 were checked in Burns Emergency, 28,211 reported in Gynae/Obs Emergency and 169,561 children were treated at Pediatric Emergency of the hospital.

However, around 14,79,373 patients visited the OPD of the CHK last year with seven percent decrease in comparison with 1,597,712 patients. The statistics further show that 79,809 patients got admission in 43 departments of hospital in 2016 with 24% increase as compared with 60, 525 admission recorded in 2015.

A total of 8,752 deliveries, both normal and cesareans, were carried out in three Gynae/Obs Units of the hospital in 2016.

The CHK statistics revealed that 2,562 deaths were also reported in 43 departments of the institution last year. The majority of deaths were recorded in Burns Center (630). Around 28,54,259 Lab tests were conducted in 2016 in comparison with 2,237,939 in 2015. Over 118,897 X-Ray cases were also performed in OPD Department last year
