Citizen dies after alleged police torture

Quetta: Police allegedly tortured to death a citizen here Wednesday and DIG Quetta suspended SHO Shalkot and 8 personnel of Eagle Squad.

According to police sources, Fazal Muhammad, a resident of Sabzal Road died due to police torture. The heirs of deceased staged a protest demonstration in front of Civil Hospital, Quetta.

Ghulam Farooq, the brother of deceased said that his brother was married and had a child. He was serving as cashier at a Crushing Plant situated at Eastern Bypass.

On Tuesday he was riding his bike and gave lift to a person when the personnel of Eagle Squad stopped them near Hazargangi.

On searching, a pistol was recovered from the person sitting with him on the motorcycle.

The Eagle Squad personnel arrested both of them and took them to Shalkot Police Station where his brother was severally tortured.

When his condition deteriorated, the police released them. He came home in a very critical condition and whole night could not sleep due to severe pain.

In the morning, he was taken to Civil Hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Ghulam Farooq said that police tortured his brother and were responsible for his death.

DIG Abdul Razaq Cheema took action and suspended the services of SHO Police Station Shalkot and 8 personnel of Eagle Squad.

He assured the family members of deceased Fazal Muhammad that stern action would be taken against the involved officials when the postmortem report is received.
