Cricket championship begins at Sindh University

HYDERABAD: Inter-department (boys) championship 2018 has kicked off at Sindh University. VC SU Prof Dr Fateh Mohammad Burfat opened the event by playing inaugural shot on a ball bowled to him in a cricket match that commenced the multi-sports tournament.

Dr. Burfat, in his views as the occasion chief guest remarked that co-curricular activities constituted an integral component of holistic development of youth.

“A healthy society is essentially an offshoot of a society that safeguards promotes and loves sports”, he said.

Burfat added that sports indirectly developed students’ cognitive skills by imperceptibly pushing them into situations that called for exercise of judgment, analysis, decision-making, displaying confidence, challenging and combating crisis-like situations.

He observed, “I am glad to learn every other day about SU students’ incessant successes in sports held at regional, provincial, national and Asian level.”

Earlier, Director Sports (Boys) welcomed guests and thanked VC-SU Prof. Dr. Fateh Mohammad Burfat for his patronage and presence. The championship will have a whole-week run and it will be featuring games that include cricket, badminton, table tennis, athletics and tug-of-war. Students from almost all 57 departments/ institutes are participating in the championship.

On the occasion, an intriguing 100-metre race was also organized in which VC-SU Dr. Burfat, Focal Person SU Thatta campus Dr. Sarfraz Hussain Solangi and other teaching and administrative heads and faculty above 45 years also participated.
