CS orders to retrieve SSWMB land from grabbers

KARACHI: The activation of all garbage transfer stations must be ensured within a week in all districts of Karachi; it was instructed by Chief Secretary Sindh Rizwan Memon in his office to the managing director of Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) here on Tuesday.

Presiding over a meeting to review the progress of SSWMB, the chief secretary maintained that M.D, SSWMB should undertake the distribution of work for prompt action on the assigned task. He advised that in consultation with the commissioner, deputy commissioners of Karachi the issues of demarcating the landfill sites and smooth functioning of garbage transfer system (GTS) might be resolved sufficiently, including removal of encroachments from the lands of SSWMB in a few areas.

He also noted that the antic-encroachment force of Sindh Board of Revenue (SBR) is also stand-by to free the lands from possession of encroachers and land-grabbers.

The commissioner Karachi, Aijaz Ahmed Khan, DC South Rafeeq Qureshi, Agha Nasir Abbas, and other deputy commissioners asserted their best cooperation to resolve the issues.

Concluding, the chief secretary categorically noted that the authorized representatives of SSWMB should be emphasized upon personal contacts with the nation-building departments instead of formal correspondence.
