LARKANA: Journalists of Larkana held a protest demonstration in front of local press club Sunday against lodging of five FIRs against their seven colleagues of Sukkur at different police stations.
They shouted slogans while holding banners and placards in their hands and demanded withdrawal of cases against Sahil Jogi, Imdad Phulpoto, Ashique Jatoi and Hazrat Gul Pathan.
The protesters included Munir Soomro, Hanif Suhag, Jamal Dawoodpoto, Nawaz Mangi, Abdul Qadir Jagirani, Rashid Samo and others. They said that two cases had been registered against Sahil Jogi at two different police stations, one case had been lodged against Imdad Phulpoto at Kacho Ketty PS for kidnapping for ransom.
They said lodging fake cases against working journalists amounted to curbing freedom of press. They said that influential people kept on registering fake cases against the senior journalists to hide their misdeeds, corruption and unlawful activities because they were exposed by them.
They said registration of cases was meant harassing the newsmen discharging their professional duties in brave way. They urged IGP Sindh and AIGP Sukkur to order withdrawal of fake cases against the media persons to ensure free press and enable them to perform their duties in dedicated manner.
