Dengue claimed 12 lives in 2017

KARACHI: As many as 2,927 dengue fever cases were reported throughout the Sindh province in 2017 out of them 2,889 cases were detected from Karachi alone, while 38 from rest of province.

The annual statistics released by Prevention and Control Program of Dengue (PCPD), Sindh show that in 2017, a total 12 people including eight males and four females died of dengue fever in Karachi.

In Karachi out of 2889 cases, 1582 cases were reported from District East, 497 from District Central, 349 from District South, 212 from District West, 160 from District Malir and 89 from District Korangi.

Regarding the dengue cases from other divisions of Sindh, 15 cases were reported in Hyderabad, 14 from Mirpurkhas, seven from Larkana and two from Sukkur.

As per month-wise data, 181 dengue cases were reported in January 2017, 63 in February, 99 in March, 83 in April, 123 in May, 70 in June, 68 in July, 200 in August, 338 in September, 721 in October, 671 in November and 310 in the month of December.
