Federal minister wants referendum on Bahawalpur province issue

Bahawalpur: Federal Minister for Housing and Works Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema has said that demand of the restoration of former Bahawalpur province was 50 years old demand.

PTI leadership should take its allies into confidence before making decision regarding creation of new South Punjab province as our demand would benefit a population of 15 million.

This he said while talking to PPI at his residence .District President PML(Q) Bahawalpur Syed Salahuddin Ahmed Jeelani and Ex-City Nazim Ejaz Khan Baloch were also present.

Federal Minister said that Bahawalpur region was neglected in past while Leghari, Khosas, Gilani, Qureshi, Khar and Gormani families not only ruled Punjab province but also enjoyed important posts at federal level. They should have paid heed to the genuine demands of the masses of the South Punjab.

Cheema said that as in past there used to be a High Court Bench in Bahawlapur, one post of deputy attorney general and four posts of assistant attorney generals vacancies had been allocated for the lawyers of this region, but now thedeputy attorney general is selected from Multan and three assistant generals from Rahim YarKhan and one from Chistian.

Federal Minister proposed to hold a referendum on the issue of restoration of the former Bahawalpur province and stated that all the supporters of old Bahawalpur province movement would accept its results.

He declared that inhabitants of Bahawalpur region would not accept the hegemony of Multan after Lahore. He urged PTI law makers hailing from Bahawalpur region to raise their voice for the restoration of Bahawalpur province.

Federal Minister reminded that two PTI MNAs hailing from Bahawalpur district Farooq Azam Malik and

Samiul Hassan Gilani had contested 2013 general elections on the tickets of BNAP Chief Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi tickets but why now they have tightened their lips on this burning issue.

Federal Minister Housing and Works Chaurhry Tariq Bashir Cheema paid rich tributes to Prime Minister Imran Khan for the renewal of his pledge to curb corruption and termed it key reason behind poverty.

He said Imran Khan is dedicated and honest leader whose core mission is public service. Under his leadership federal government was moving in the direct direction. Commenting on 50 lakhs houses project, he said that some Chinese, Emirates, Turkish, New Zealand companies have shown interest for investing in this project.

Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema said that laying the foundation stone of Kartarpur corridor was a historical initiative of Premier Imran Khan which would help improve Pakistan-India relations.
