Karachi: Although the green-shirts scored heavily against underdogs China, Chinese-Taipei and Hong Kong in Pool matches but they fell against first proper opponent they met in the Under 18 Hockey Asia Cup as arch-rival India defeated them 3-1 in the event’s semifinals in Dhaka on Thursday.
India seemed to have bluffed Pakistan in the tournament by losing a Pool match against Bangladesh earlier. Pakistani youngsters must have come in the semifinals in high spirits since they had won all pool matches by huge margins. They had scored 24 goals and conceded only one.
They must also have observed Indian team may not be as good as theirs since it has lost a match against minnows Bangladesh.
But in the all-important semifinal encounter, India proved too good for the green-shirts and took 2-0 lead in the first half. They added another goal in the second half before Amjad Ali Khan score a consolatory goal off a penalty corner.
Pakistan is likely to secure lowly third position as they will face Chinese-Taipei in the third place play-off. India would face host Bangladesh in the summit clash.
