Int’l: (Japan hopes for progress in peace treaty talks with Russia)

ISLAMABAD: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said that his country hopes for progress in peace treaty talks with Russia on ongoing territorial dispute.

According to reports, he said, he wants to discuss the issue candidly with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Japan next week. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said over the weekend it would be difficult to close the gap in positions over a peace treaty and territorial dispute with Japan. Prime Minister further said that, the issue can’t be settled in one meeting.
