Izhar-ul-Hasan released on lack of evidences: ATC told

KARACHI: Malir Police on Saturday informed the administrative judge of Anti-Terrorism Court that the police released Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPA and Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly, Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hasan due to lack of evidences in sedition and hate speeches cases.

Hasan along with other party leaders Farooq Sattar, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Kanwar Naveed Jameel and others had been nominated in the FIR registered at Site Superhighway police station in District Malir for allegedly facilitating hate speeches of former MQM chief.

The investigating officer (IO) informed the court that police arrested Hasan on Friday but later, released him due to lack of evidences under section 497 (2) of Criminal Procedure (CRPC). The police added that the MQM leader could be re-arrested if the investigators find solid evidences against him.

While making the report as record of the case, the judge directed police to submit an investigation report as required under section 173 of the CrPC.
