Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has welcomed the suo moto notice of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Mardan University incident and said that all those responsible for the gruesome murder must be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Speaking at a meeting with the Ulema and Mashaikh at Mansoora, he said that the murder of a student by a mob at the university was most condemnable as an act of lawlessness and intolerance. He said the incident had given rise to numerous questions.
He said that an individual, a group, any institution or even the state had no right to indulge in lawlessness. It was the responsibility of the state and the judiciary to act against those violating the law, he added.
He noted that the mob which killed the alleged blasphemer was not of any madrissah or religious institution. The question was why such a situation had arisen.
Liaqat Baloch emphasized that Pakistan was an Islamic ideological state and its people had immense love and respect for Islam, the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet (pbuh). However, he said that the rulers and the secular forces in the country were openly deviating from the Islamic system and causing strong reaction and intolerance among the masses, especially the youth. Therefore, he said, the issue was not of the law but of the lawlessness of the rulers and the institutions.
Besides, he said, the country’s education system and the educational institutions at national level were a failure mainly because the entire education was aimless. At the same time, he said, the masses had lost faith in the police, administration and even the judiciary.
