KARACHI: Residents of Lyari’s Liaqat Colony on Wednesday held a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) against non-supply of clean drinking water to their area.
The protesters including women reached the KPC to register protest against shortage of drinking water in their locality.
The protest was led by Waseem Laasi, Noshad, Qadir and others.
Waseem Laasi, chairman of area’s action committee told that they were forced to drink unclean water. He said that politicians only visit their area for begging votes, and they are not concerned about that people re drinking sewerage-mixed water and catch serious diseases.
He said that for last 10 years they have been facing acute shortage of potable water in Lyari. He said they were buying water on high rates from tankers. However, he said, many poor people cannot arrange costly tanker water for their families.
The protesters asked the Sindh government to give special attention to Lyari’s problems and address them as soon as possible.
