Man gets bail in encounter, illicit weapons case from SHC

Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday granted bail to an accused in a case pertaining to attempted murder and possessing illicit weapons.

Bilal Mehmood, who was nominated in the FIR for allegedly carrying weapon without license and opening fires on the policemen in an attempt to kill them in July 2011, approached the SHC through his counsel and prayed to grant him a bail.

The lawyer said that his client was innocent, terming the charges levelled against him baseless. He argued that the prosecution had failed to submit any concrete evidence against Bilal Mehmood.

After hearing the arguments, the SHC granted bail against a surety of Rs50,000 in each case.

The case was registered at Zaman Town police station under Sections 324 (attempted murder) 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty) of the Pakistan Penal Code and 23(1)(a) of the Sindh Arms Act.
