Mayor attends city warden’s passing out parade

Karachi: Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar said he did not need to get vote of confidence as citizens of megacity Karachi have elected me as Mayor and we still have their trust. Those who are saying such things are unaware of rules.

Citizens of megacity Karachi given us the confidence and we are among them and will remain between them.

Whole country including megacity Karachi is facing difficulties and local bodies are not having powers which are enjoyed by mayor and other local bodies all over the world. All vacant posts in KMC will be filled with youth of megacity Karachi on merit basis. KMC next budget will be prepared by the elected representatives and the development process will get boost with it.

He said this while addressing to the passing out parade of the city wardens in City Warden Headquarter on Friday.

DMC East Chairman Moeed Anwer, Vice Chairman Abdul Rauf, DMC central chairman Rehen Hashmi vice chairman Shakir Ali, Vice Chairman of DMC KOrangi Syed Ahmer Ali, SSP Traffic East Malik Zafar, parliamentary leader in city council Aslam Shah Afridi, chairman land committee Syed Arshad Hassan, chairman law committee Arif Khan Advocate, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Asghar Abbas , senior director coordination Masood Alam, director city warden Imran Ahmed and other departmental heads also attended this ceremony.

Mayor inspected the passing out parade and gave away certificate to the passing out wardens.

Akhtar said local bodies are facing difficulties in performing their functions and efforts are under way to improve revenue collection. For makeshift arrangement we have asked the Sindh Government to provide us Rs30 Crore grant every month so that salaries of staff could be paid.

He said that a summary has been sent to the chief minister Sindh for filling of vacant posts in KMC and after getting approval these posts will be filled with competent staff and the contractual employees who have better capabilities will be preferred in this  process.

The first budget was not made by us however the next budget will be the budget presented by the elected r representatives and we hope that development process will get further speed after this, mayor said

The city wardens’ performance has improved and they are doing good work especially in the situation that many roads have been dug up for development works.

He said the wardens have an important duty to help holding the Pakistan Super League Final on 25th March in the National Stadium Karachi.  He also thanked the Police and the Sindh government for providing training to city wardens.

Mayor also  referred to the leakage in sewerage lines and the improper water supply and other issues facing by the citizens of megacity Karachi and said that these problems needs to be addressed without further delay.
