Metropolitan Commissioner distributes certificates amongst midwives

KARACHI:Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman has said that the standard of government hospitals can be improved through public private partnership and time has come that skilled and experienced people transfer their knowledge to others and facilitate the people directly.

Paramedics and nursing staff were never given importance in health department whereas many people were even unaware of the name and works of midwifery; hence, it became important that such department is given importance in major hospitals.

He expressed these views while speaking as chief guest in a program held in the Sobhraj Maternity Hospital on Wednesday where the students from various KMC hospitals who completed the midwifery course were given certificates.

Senior Director Medical and Health Services Dr Beerbal Genani, Dr Shershah, President of Pakistan Midwifery Association Uroosa Lakhani, MS of Sobhraj Hospital Dr Huria and others were also present.

Syed Saif-ur-Rehman gave away training certificates to the students.

Addressing the ceremony, he said that the KMC will continue its endeavors to bring improvement in its medical institutions so that people’s trust on KMC hospitals could be restored.

He congratulated the hospital management and said that they have run the Sobhraj Hospital in a better way.

He said that we need to give importance to field of midwifery which has already gained importance all over the world.

Dr Huria said that five maternity hospitals were working under KMC and the midwifery school in Sobhraj Maternity Home was established in 1979 to provide two year’s training to students.

Dr Shershah said that no hospital can be run without having paramedical staff; therefore, it should be focused more.
