Micro plan sought to tackle polio, hepatitis from Larkana division

LARKANA: Commissioner Larkana has directed all the five Deputy Commissioners of Larkana Division to prepare micro plan for eradication of polio and hepatitis.

Mohammad Abbas Baloch issued this direction while presiding over a meeting of Divisional Health Management Committee and Divisional Task Force for Polio in his office on Wednesday which was participated by all DCs, health managers, District Surveillance Coordinators, Rangers Wing Commander of Larkana Division and other relevant officers.

He said: Polio and hepatitis are very dangerous diseases which need to be wiped out from the division.” He expressed his anger over death of two kids who lost their lives due to measles in Shikarpur few days back but neither any report was submitted to him nor any preventive measures were taken. He said negligent officials would face the music very soon.

Baloch said that every district had over one thousand health workers and over 100 vaccinators but even then, proper work was not being carried out. He said DPCRs were also not working properly, adding officers were not showing their efficiency despite having resources for which strict action should be taken against them and their monthly salaries might be withheld.

Baloch said that officers must coordinate with each other for eradication of polio and hepatitis and every resident should be given preventive hepatitis B vaccine. He said polio teams must be given full security during the forthcoming campaign to achieve target and those parents might be persuaded who refuse to administer anti-polio drops to their kids for any reason. All the DCs and DHOs also briefed the meeting about the health related activities in their respective districts. All of them complained about the acute shortage of hepatitis treatment drugs, vaccines and testing kits in entire five districts.
