National Action Plan: Police raid hotels, arrest suspects

NAUNDERO: Police conducted surprise raids at hotels under National Action Plan (NAP) to find criminals here on Monday and arrested 20 suspects who were later on released after verification.

In this connection, DSP Naundero Siraj Ahmed Day told newsmen that police contingents of Garhi Khuda Bux, Naundero and Ketty Mumtaz police stations started checking all hotels located at Station Road, Saddar Chowk, Municipal Road, Allah Waro Chowk, Shahi Bazaar, Nim Chowk, Old Mutton Market and other areas. He said they will continue to check hotels, video game shops, snooker shops, musafirkhana, gambling dens and other places.

He said that they would force the hotel owners not to operate TV during school timings; otherwise, they will face action. He said snap checking had also been undertaken.

Civil society members, including Sahab Khan Shaikh, Mumtaz Sethar, and Ghulam Mustafa Narejo, said that the cops had started checking hotels for extortion; otherwise, criminals would never wait at hotels where only tea is available. They said having tea at hotel had also become a crime now which amounted to denial of basic rights of citizens.

They said that drug and gambling dens were running openly. They further said that thefts and other crimes had become common for which police should pay more attention to curb the crimes.
