LARKANA: A senior doctor of Neurosurgery Department of Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, Dr Ishrat Raza Mangi, was severely beaten up by the attendants of a road accident patient who was brought in critical condition here in Casualty Department.

According to details, patient Wajid Ali Totani Chandio, who was 10th class student, allegedly fell down on the road from a moving marriage ceremony bus when he was dancing on its roof due to which he received serious head injuries and his both legs were also fractured, doctors said while talking to reporters here on Sunday. The patient was examined by Dr. Mangi and the attendants were asked to arrange B positive blood so that emergency operation could be conducted but they arranged two pints and third was delayed and the patient expired.

The attendants started beating the doctor saying due to his negligence younger brother of the groom has expired. The police party deployed at Casualty ran away from the incident and did nothing to prevent the escalation of the dispute. The relatives took the body and again protested on SSP office roundabout against alleged negligence of doctors.

The doctor was arrested and locked up where he also was maltreated by the SHO of Civil Lines police station Ubaid-ur-Rahman Dharejo. On hearing this news the doctors of Pakistan Medical Association gathered, burnt tyres and held protest demonstration along with paramedical staff of the CMCH. This forced the police to release the doctor immediately. Reliable sources at the Neurosurgery Department said that Dr Mangi is the only doctor who attends every emergency patient and conduct operations without support of any post-graduate doctor. SSP Larkana has formed committee to lodge FIR against the protesters. Dr. Ikram Tunio, Dr. Shah Baig Chandio, Dr. Mahboob Shah, Dr. Anil Kumar and other doctors of PMA Larkana Chapter, said that duty doctors are unnecessarily harassed and police instead of providing them protection are proving themselves as spectators.

They said Dr. Mangi was locked up without any lawful authority and forced to sit with criminals which act they condemn strongly. They cops are always committing highhandedness with the doctors but they will not tolerate it anymore. They demanded arresting of the SHO and deploying of Rangers outside OPD and Casualty to secure their lives otherwise, they added, they will boycott their OPD duties and knock the doors of the court. On the other hand the the heirs said that they reached the Casualty night and there was no responsible doctors with whom they could talk. They said night RMO Dr Rahim Shaikh was absent and durties of Medical Superintendent were looked after by another junior doctors whose cellular number was also closed. They said they made requests to the duty doctors to save the precious life of the boy but the doctors acted like butchers.
