Opinion Poll: (51% of married women in Pakistan reside in the same city: Poll)

ISLAMABAD: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, over half (51%) married Pakistani women reside in the same city/village as their parents’ after their marriage whereas only 3% say they live in a different province.

A nationally representative sample of married women from across the four provinces was asked “Where is your parents’ house?”

51% of the women responded that their parents’ house is in the same city/village, 36% said that it is in the district, but not in the city/village they currently reside in, 9% said that it in the province they reside in but not in the district, 3% said that it is in the country but not in the same province; whereas, 1% did not know or did not respond.

The study was released by Gilani Research Foundation and carried out by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.

The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 730 married women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, June 25 – July 02, 2018. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
