Overflowing gutters spread diseases

August 8, 2019

Karachi:Choked sewerage lines and overflowing gutters in several localities of megacity Karachi are spreading diseases, as KWSB and local government entities have failed to maintain proper sewerage disposal system in the provincial capital of Sindh.

Machinery and manpower is deployed on some main roads, while badly neglecting inner areas of the megacity, particularly the localities of low income citizens.

Sachal Goth, a densely populated neighborhood of Gulshan e Iqbal, just behind the University of Karachi, has been facing a dismal situation with its roads and streets inundated in gutter water. Main Road of Sachal Goth and different streets particularly its Block-C are depicting like small canals of gutter water. Despite several complaints of the residents the KWSB and related local government departments are not taking any move to open the chocked gutters. The elected MNA, MPA and councilors of the neighborhood are least interested in resolving the sewerage issue of their voters.

Different diseases and infections are fast spreading in the locality, especially amongst children, who play in gutter water filled streets. The citizens have appealed to the chief minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah and local government minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah to take a personal notice of filthy atmosphere is Sachal Goth which is a traditional stronghold of the ruling Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP).
