PMA demands decrease in medicine prices

LARKANA:The Central President, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Pakistan, Dr. Ikran Tunio, said Sunday that it was very unfortunate and undemocratic that Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) had been enforced through an ordinance 2009.

“PMA has also been excluded from it which is contravention of PMDC Act 1962,” he said while addressing a press conference at a local hotel after presiding over central meeting of PMA here today. The meeting was attended by office bearers and members of PMA from all four provinces including Dr. Salma Aslam Kundi, Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Nizami, Dr. Aamir Salim, Dr. Sher Muhammad Shaikh and others.

The meeting discussed the issues confronted by the PMA and expressed its resentment that doctors had not been given representation in PMDC. He said PMA represents Pakistan in WHO and other medical councils around the globe but it was being neglected in our own country which was condemnable and astonishing act.

He said the meeting unanimously demanded that the elections of PMDC must be held immediately according to the ordinance. Dr Tunio said the attitude of the PMDC is highly objectionable with entire medical universities in the country.

He said PMA condemned in strongest possible words the increase of medicines in the country and demanded immediate decrease so that poor people could get treatment at cheaper costs.

Dr Tunio further said that all hotels and restaurants in Sindh must be registered with Sindh Food Authority because of their negligence in maintaining cleanliness and usage of inferior quality oils deadly diseases are surfacing and spreading fast among the society due to which people including children are dying.
