PMAP demands national official language status for Pashto

KARACHI: On the eve of International Mother Language Day, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) on Wednesday demanded national official language status for Pashto.

A large number of people belonging to PMAP Sindh Zone reached Karachi Press Club to register demonstration and pressed the government to make Pashto as national language. The protest was led by PMAP Sindh president Nazir Yousafzai, Sabir Khan and Noorullah Tareen.

Speaking on the occasion, Nazir Yousafzai said that every language has right to become an official and government language. He said that it was decided during the creation of Pakistan that all nations, including Sindhi, Baloch, Pakhtoon, Siraiki, and Punjabi would be treated in Pakistan on equal basis, while the country would be a federal and its system would be parliamentary democracy but politicians and state always denied to accept the rights of nations.

He alleged that politicians had always imposed national inequality in the country which affected nations and their rights. The protesters urged the federal government to grant national and official status to all languages in the country.
