PMSA recovers over 65,000 smuggled liquor bottles, beer cans

KARACHI:Pakistan Maritime Security Agency’s (PMSA) said on Wednesday that it had seized more than 65,000 smuggled high quality liquor bottles and beer cans from the sea.

Pakistan Maritime Security Agency’s (PMSA) intelligence sources got credible information that sea routes will be used for smuggling of large quantity of illegal liquor.

DG PMSA Rear Admiral Zaka Ur Rehman said during the press conference at PMSA headquarter that based on this information, PMSA deployed its ships, aircraft and fast response boats on all sea routes. On the night, PMSA ship chased suspicious boats near Makran coast and recovered illegal liquor worth of Rs 400 million.

During boarding of boat, approximately more than 65000 high quality liquor bottles and beer cans were seized. Seven smugglers have also been arrested from the boat.

This operation was conducted with the cooperation of Pakistan Custom (Preventive). The apprehended liquor and smugglers are being handed over to Pakistan Customs (Preventive) for further legal proceedings, PMSA sources told PPI today.

It is pertinent to mention here that seized illegal liquor contained more than 50 international brands of whisky, wine, jin and beer and this liquor seizure is the biggest in the history of Pakistan Maritime Security Agency.

This successful anti smuggling operation by PMSA proves that Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) and Pakistan Customs are fully active in their area of responsibility and are fully capable of stopping all kinds of illegal activities in their domain.

On this occasion, Custom Collector (Preventive) Dr. Farid Iqbal Qureshi and other PMSA officials were also present at the occasion.
