PNA stages sit-in in Karachi

KARACHI: Provincial Nurses Association (PNA) Sindh on Tuesday staged a sit-in outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) for time-scale promotions, delay in implementation four-tier formula and health professional allowance.

The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed different slogans. A large number of male and female nurses from government hospitals of Karachi and nursing institutes participated in the sit-in.

President, PNA, Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), Unit, Sajjad Jamali, while talking to PPI, said that nurses in Sindh have been facing multiple problems but authorities of Sindh health department are not serious to resolve the problems being faced by nurses.

He informed that PNA has presented a charter of demands to Sindh government including demands like health professional allowance, time scale promotions, new appointment of nurses, teaching allowance, DDO powers to principals, residential colony for nurses, establishment of nursing university and regularization of contract nurses.

He warned that the protest demonstration of nurses would spread to every city of the province if their demands of nurses were not accepted by the Sindh government.
