Purpose of education should not be just employment

KARACHI:Sindh Minister for Information, Archives and Labor Saeed Ghani has said that the purpose of education should not be just limited to seeking employment, but the role of education was very important in character building. The Provincial Minister of Information said that education not only made people more conscious but also helped them become better citizens of the society.

He said this while addressing as chief guest at a seminar organized by PAF Karachi Institute of Economics and Technology on Monday. Ghani said that there was a time when people used to come to Karachi from other parts of the country to seek quality education, but now the situation had changed as people were leaving Karachi in pursuit of high standard education.

Ghani said that they had to structure education system in such a way that if on one hand it could help the students gain suitable job, on the other hand and more importantly it could also play an important role in character building of students.

He said that Karachi had an important role in Pakistan’s economy and it would not be wrong to claim that Karachi was the backbone of country’s economy. He said that any government or a national institution could not function well until the general public or the citizens supported it completely. He said that almost the same number of street crime incidents took place in London regularly as in Karachi, but the same was not being reported in UK as was being done here.

Ghani said that while they had to ensure the elimination of our evils, on the other hand we had to cover it as well. The provincial minister said that five years back Pakistan was at 5th position in the countries with highest crime rate, but now its position was 70th. This proved that the situation was improving due to the sacrifices rendered by the personnel and officers of our security agencies. Later the provincial minister for information also distributed prizes among the students of PAF KIET who won various competitions.

Meanwhile, Sindh Minister for Information, Archives and Labor Saeed Ghani visited on Monday the areas affected by sudden emergence of sea water, including Chashma Ghoth, Rehri Goth and Lath Goth.
