Quetta Bar seeks activation of dysfunctional tribunals

QUETTA: Iqbal Kasi Advocate, President, Quetta Bar Association, has called on authorities to fix one-year-tenure for the cabinet of Supreme Court Bar Association, reduce the tenure of the cabinet of Pakistan Bar Council and provincial bar councils from 5 to 3 years, functionalize the dysfunctional tribunals, corporations and departments by ensuring the appointments of suitable lawyers against the vacant slots instead of appointing retired judges and retired judges against the positions lying vacant in different tribunals, corporations and departments and expedite enacting “Lawyers Protection Act” so that security could be provided to the legal fraternity of the country.

Addressing a press conference at Quetta Press Club here on Thursday, he said that lawyers had always struggled for the rule of law and supremacy of constitution, adding that sacrifices rendered by legal fraternity for the restoration of democracy in the country were known to all and sundry.

He added that lawyers of Balochistan in cooperation with leaders of professional panel and bar bodies got the post of Additional Attorney General created after a long struggle, adding that the appointment of a local lawyer against the slot of Additional Attorney General proved the struggle waged by Quetta Bar Association.

On the occasion, Ali Hassan Bugti Advocate, General Secretary, Quetta Bar Association, Khan Afrasiyab Khan Advocate, Vice President, Quetta city, Malik Tanveer Ahmed Shahwani, Vice President, Taimoor Shah, Vice President, Kuchlak, Asif Khilji, Joint Secretary, Rafiullah, Finance Secretary, Miss Saba Zahid, Library Secretary and others were also present.
