Roadmap for stimulating economy greeted

Karachi:The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has welcomed and appreciated Prime Minister Imran Khan’s directives to economic managers to prepare roadmap for stimulation of economy.

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said the business community was anxiously awaiting this much needed action and is thankful to the PM for his clear cut directives to stimulate the economy.

Thaver said it is pertinent to note that the economy will get into gear by the micro to medium sized sector.

The MSME sector needs to be facilitated, supported, encouraged and motivated through friendly policies.

Thaver, advocating the cause of the sector and highlighting the pain points of the micro to medium sized sector, said the sector needs finance at affordable mark up, energy at subsidized rates, technological and global marketing support. Conducive environment, ease of doing business, friendly policies and SME Ombudsman, immediate appointment of CEO SMEDA, increase in size and scope of SMEDA, substantial reduction in cost of doing business to become competitive, prompt announcement and proper implementation of SME policy 2019 and SME representatives on boards of TDAP, SMEDA , PCSIR, NBP, SME BANK.

He said since the MSME is the majority sector and the vehicle for growth, does most of the value addition, employs large number of people, the farmers and the agri-based units also come under the fold of the MSME sector, it is imperative that the government needs to focus on their uplift through modernization and creating an enabling environment. The sector needs priority for the economy to be stimulated on fast track basis.

Early launch of Exim Bank and PM’s Kamyab Youth Loan scheme will prove to be stimulating factors and need implementation without loss of time.
