SHC directs police not to harass free will marriage couple

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed police officials not to harass Mst Hira and her Husband Mohammad Sheeraz who had contracted free- will marriage earlier this month.

The 19-year old Hira, a resident of Mirpurkhas, submitted that she married with Sheeraz on 8th September without the parents’ permission on which they had lodged her kidnapping case against her spouse.

The petitioner submitted that she and her husband are adults and contracted marriage with their free will yet the police are harassing Sheeraz with respect to the fake kidnapping case.

Citing Inspector General Police; SSP Mirpurkhas; SSP Malir; SSP Malir; the father of woman, Yameen Qureshi; and the Sindh government as the respondents, the petitioner prayed to the court to direct the police to provide protection to them.

The court was further requested by the newly-wed couple to quash the kidnapping case registered against Sheraz at local police station in Mirpurkhas.

SHC bench, headed by Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, heard the petition and directed the police not to harass the couple. It also sought comments from the advocate general Sindh and the respondents by September 29.
