SHC extends interim bail of Durrani’s brother, others in assets beyond means case

KARACHI:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday extended interim bail of Agha Siraj Durrani’s brother and other accused in a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) case pertaining to the assets beyond means.

A two-member bench of SHC heard the bail plea of Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani’s brother Gulzar Ahmed and other accused persons who were present in the court. The prosecutor informed the bench that the reference had been filed against the accused.

The NAB filed reference pertaining to assets beyond means of income against Durrani. It included 20 names including Aghar Siraj, his wife, daughters and sons in the reference. Counsel of Rehmatullah Lashari and Barrister Khawaja Naveed asked the court that his client was not named in the NAB reference. The accountability bureau counsel informed the court that the NAB had recorded statement of Lashari and he is not wanted to the NAB.

The court dismissed the plea of Lashari after the NAB prosecutor’s statement. The bench also ordered return of the bail money deposited by Lashari in the court. Later, the court adjourned the hearing till 27 June.

According to the NAB charge-sheet, the accused were involved in corruption of upto Rs 1.6 billion. NAB Karachi had arrested Speaker Durrani from a hotel in Islamabad in February this year.
