SHC orders paying arrears to MPAs

KARACHI:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday ordered the provincial authorities to pay arrears of allowances and funds to the members of Sindh assembly within two months.

A two-member bench of the SHC, headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, heard the petition filed moved by the lawmakers belonging to the Muttahida Qoumi Movement, Pakistan Tahreek-i-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional seeking payment of basic pay and allowances under the Sindh Laws (Amendment) Act 2017. Former MPA Syed Sardar Ahmed and others appeared before court.

At the outset, a deputy secretary of Finance Department informed the bench that Sindh government was facing financial crisis that is why they were waiting for approval of funds by cabinet committee.

The bench ordered provincial authorities to pay 50 percent payment in the month of September and October. ‘’Chief Secretary must ensures 50% payment till 15th October,’’ the court ordered.

However, additional advocate general submitted with the bench that due to transfers of secretaries, payment of funds is delayed.
