Sindh decides to upgrade teaching hospitals’ OTs

KARACHI: Sindh Health Department has decided to up-grade Operation Theaters (OTs) of tertiary care hospitals and around 20 OTs of Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) would be modernized in first phase, sources at health department told PPI Sunday.

This was decided in a high level consultative meeting organized by Sindh Health Department at Sindh Secretariat. Medical Superintendents and heads of various public sector hospitals, surgeons and anesthesiologists were present in the meeting to review the condition of operation theaters of teaching hospitals.

The experts recommended for up-gradation of old and outdated theaters of public sector hospitals, particularly teaching health facilities on urgent basis as per international standards. The experts said OTs of teaching hospitals were not up-graded with the passage of time and there was urgent need to modernize them.

It was also decided to up-grade the 20 OTs of Civil Hospital Karachi out of 27 including cardiac, ENT, orthopedic, emergency operation theaters and others in first phase as a project and later it will be implemented in other teaching hospitals of the province. The budget and other requirements based summery will be moved to Chief Minister Sindh next week for the approval.
