Swine flu suspected case surfaces in Karachi

KARACHI: A suspected swine flu case was reported in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) Karachi and the patient was said to be a staffer of the healthcare facility.

Sources at ASH told PPI that a 26-year-old, Meena Zaidi was suffering from symptoms that resemble swine flu for a week and she remained under observation in the hospital for last three days.

The patient was moved to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi when her condition deteriorated. She is now under treatment in the Isolation Ward of the CHK.

Medical Superintendent, CHK, Dr Mohammad Taufiq, confirmed that a suspected swine flu patient was admitted in their Isolation Ward of hospital and her throat swab sample was sent to laboratory for investigation to determine the disease.

He said the patient was also suffering from diabetes.

More than 100 patients have already been diagnosed as seasonal influenza or H1N1 viral flu patients in a private hospital of Karachi city during last one and half month.

This disease is caused by influenza virus. Fever, sore throat, flu, head ache, body ache, cough, may be productive, and upper respiratory tract infection are the main symptoms of this disease.
