(CITY): Five suspected bandits killed in shootout with police in Karachi

KARACHI:,,, Police on Friday claimed to have killed five suspected bandits in an encounter in Defence area of the metropolis.

According to a Central Police Office statement, a cops party signalled a suspected vehicle in Gizri area of Defence, Phase 1V, to stop, but they disembarked from the vehicle and entered a bungalow by climbing its wall.

They police claimed that as they besieged the bungalow, the bandits opened fire on them. In retaliatory fire, five suspects were injured. The police said that the suspects died on the way to the hospital. They were identified as Muhammad Abbas, Ghulam Mustafa, Muhammad Abid, and Muhammad Riaz. However, the identity of one of their accomplice could not be ascertained.

The police also claimed to have recovered arms from the possession of the killed bandits, who were stated to be the members of a criminal gang from southern Punjab. The bodies were brought to Jinnah Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Further investigation was underway, the police said.
