 (Health): CHK faces hardships to run PICU and NICU over manpower issue

KARACHI: Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) administration has been unable to run Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) due to shortage of skilled staff.

There are 14 ventilators in PICU and NICU out of which only six are operational because shortage of skilled nurses and other staff. The PICU and NICU are being run by CHK in collaboration with Dowites, the ex-graduate Dow Medical College (DMC).

The hospital administration had sent several requests to Sindh health department for hiring skilled staff to run PICU, NICU and other units but no positive response has been received from the government side yet.

Additional Medical Superintendent, CHK, Dr Ismail Memon, while talking to PPI, said efforts were underway to provide skilled staff and required funds to make PICU and NICU operational.
