100th student of IBMS defend M Phil thesis at DUHS

KARACHI:Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Prof Saeed Quraishy said that the Institute of Biomedical Sciences has prepared 100 M Phil scholars in a short span of 9 years.

He was addressing as special guest at the event which was organized by the students of the institute at the completion of 100 M Phil theses.

The event was addressed by the Director of IBMS Prof Dr Zeba Haque and Deputy Director Mohammad Owais while a large number of students and teachers was present.

Prof Saeed Quraishy said that when Institute of Biomedical Sciences was set up in 2008, the chances for success were not very bright, but the hard work of teachers and students made it more successful than expected.

In 2011, the first M Phil student had presented his research dissertation.

However, Dr Zeba Haque said that 84 of our M Phil students in various fields are contributing to promotion of medical education in Pakistan while 14 students are working on projects abroad.

She also gave details of students completing M Phil thesis in different fields which includes 25 students in Anatomy, 5 in Biochemistry, 1 in Genetics, 8 in Hematology, 10 in Histopathology, 7 in Microbiology, 1 in Molecular Medicine and Bioinformatics, 9 in Molecular pathology, 11 in pharmacology and 23 students in the field of physiology.
