144 new HIV cases registered in 28 days in Larkana

LARKANA:As many as 144 new HIV positive cases have been registered in last 28 days at the HIV/AIDS Treatment and Care Center, Larkana, bringing the total to 2568 as the previous number was 2424 on May 03, 2019.

Out of these, 1922 are males, 585 females, 27 children and 29 transgenders. A report says 2239 HIV positive people are on HAART (Highly Active Anti-Retro Viral Therapy) treatment and all other 329 people are absconding. Out of 2239 HAART cases, 1649 are males, 545 are females, 16 children and 29 transgenders.

The number of HIV positive registered cases in Larkana district is higher than the other districts as it has 1205 HIV positive registered people, Kambar-Shahdadkot has 366 cases, Dadu 245, Khairpur Mirs has 211, Shikarpur has 168 people, Sukkur 91 cases, Jacobabad has 72 cases, Naushehro Feroze has 60, 49 in Kashmore, 34 in Ghotki, 25 in Jamshoro, 11 in Nawabshah and 14 are from Jaffarabad (Balochistan) along with others. Dr. Hola Ram, Incharge of the Center said that he is not aware as to why the registered HIV positive people are absconding from getting ART treatment.

In reply to another question he said that he is unaware of the figure of those positive people who have so far expired adding most the absconding persons might have died. He said 97 adults have arrived at the Center who were detected HIV positive at Ratodero screening camps out of which 90 have been reconfirmed and seven others are also suffering from other diseases.
