16 killed, 30 injured in blast at Quetta’s Hazarganji

QUETTA:At least 16 people were killed and 30 others injured as an improvised explosive device (IED) went off at vegetable market in the Hazar Gunji area of Quetta on Friday.

According to DIG Quetta Abdur Razzaq Cheema, 16 people including three children were killed, while more than 28 others sustained injuries in the explosion. Four FC personnel were also among the injured, DIG said.

The police official further said the blast which ripped through the Hazarganji sabzi mandi on Friday morning, was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) that had been hidden in the market, he conformed.

According to Rescue sources, the injured were shifted to Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences. An emergency has been declared at Quetta hospitals.

Soon after the explosion, the personnel of security forces, police and Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.
