5th course on renal transplantation concludes at SIUT

KARACHI: A three-day postgraduate course on renal transplantation urology and nephrology concluded at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) on Thursday. The course, fifth of its kind, was organized by SIUT in collaboration with Westmead Hospital, Sydney.

Prof Jeremy Chapman, the visiting renal physician from Australia, who is also Editor-in-Chief of the Transplantation Journal discussed various topics including assessing the donor and recipient for transplantation, long term management of renal transplantation, and improving dialysis therapy in developing countries.

He also highlighted the important features of the course for renal transplantation urology and nephrology. He said the course outline was aimed about the multiple issues concerning dialysis, renal transplantation and its long term outcome.

Prof Chapman, who is the Director of Renal Medicine at Westmead Hospital of Sydney and the past President of International Transplantation Society stressed that there is a greater need of the organ donation for the transplantation of renal failure patients and also who have no donor in their family.

Earlier, Director SIUT Prof Adib Rizvi welcomed the guest speakers. Others who spoke on the occasion included Dr Jan Swinnen, Donna Oomens, and Deborah Kannage, all from Sydney, whereas Dr Ejaz Ahmed, Dr Bux Ali, Dr Tahir Aziz from SIUT and others participated in the discussion.
