KARACHI: All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) of former military ruler Pervaiz Musharraf on Thursday moved the Sindh High Court (SHC) to seek permission for holding a public gathering at Liaquatabad flyover on January 07.
APML leader Mohammad Aslam petitioned the high court and submitted that his party plans to hold a public gathering at Liaquatabad flyover but the administration is not willing to permit it. He said that they had approached the administration several times for getting permission to conduct public meeting but to no avail.
He submitted that in recent past, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan and Pak Sarzameen Party had already held their gathering at same venue as they were allowed by authorities concerned that they were not permitting APML to hold their ‘Jalsa’.
The petitioner maintained that conducting political activities and public gatherings was a right of his party, as enshrined in the constitution but it has been deprived of its right. Besides, he said that Rs60million have already been spent on the gatherings’ preparation.
Citing the home Secretary, Inspector General Police, Karachi police chief, Deputy Commissioner Central, SHO Liaquatabad and others as the respondents, the petitioner requested the court to grant it permission to hold public gathering at the city’s one of the longest flyovers.
