KARACHI: Provincial Health Minister Dr Sikandar Ali Mandhro on Thursday said that the government is focusing on the development of education and health in Pakistan as education and health are closely related to sports and other physical activities
This he said while speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of 10th Annual Sports Week of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) held at an auditorium, Dow Medical College, Karachi. The event was attended by Vice Chancellor DUHS Prof Dr Mohammad Saeed Quraishy, and Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khawar Saeed Jamali, Prof Dr Mohammad Masroor, Registrar Dr Aman-Ullah Abbas, Director Finance Nadeem Shakoor Javeri, Dr Zarnaz Wahid, Prof Mukarram Ali and others.
Mandhro appreciated the efforts of the participants and encouraged the students to get indulged in more of such healthy physical activities and sports. He said it was their core responsibility to encourage new generation, particularly students, to actively participate in such healthy activities in order to produce a healthy society.
He further said that a healthy mind flourishes in a healthy body. The Sindh government was actively promoting games and was working hard to develop uniform standards of competition at national as well as international levels.
For this purpose, the Sports Minister is opted so that the new generation should be motivated to indulge themselves in sports. He also appreciated the provision of the First-Aid Service to the injured participants during the Sports Week at Dow University.
He with the Vice Chancellor distributed the trophies to the winning students, teams and teachers belonging to the 13 different participating institutes of Dow University. The 10th Annual Sports Week ended with Dow College of Pharmacy topping the event in flying colors by achieving 10 gold medals. Dow Medical College stood victorious against its rivals with 8 gold medals while different teams of Dow International Medical College collectively won 8 gold medals in different games.
The Vice Chancellor brought the curtain down by thanking the Provincial Minister and presenting him a shield of honor as a token of gratitude.
