Balochistan Educational Act 2018 lauded

Quetta:Provincial Minister for Education Muhammad Khan Lehri has said that they are revolutionizing education sector in the province by introduction of “Balochistan Educational Act, 2018”.

During the tenure of previous government, once Minister for Education, Balochistan opined that educational facilities had not been provided to half of the population of Balochistan.

He said the people of this neglected province crave for education but no step was taken to ameliorate the educational system and provide educational facilities to the people of Balochistan.

The present provincial government with Jam Mir Kamal as the Chief Minister intends to bring revolutionary reforms in educational sector.

The vivid example is the introduction of “Balochistan Educational Act, 2018”.

It has been informed that the present government has drafted the said act and it will be placed before the forthcoming meeting of Provincial Cabinet for approval.

The said Act provides for bringing reforms in educational system.

Muhammad Khan Lehri said that ever since the present government assumed responsibilities, it endeavoured to bring about a big change in health as well as educational sectors.

While criticizing the teachers unions, he said that politics of teachers brought educational sector to the verge of collapse and that was why the Provincial government decided to bring Balochistan Education Act, 2018 to the fore.

Muhammad Khan Lehri said, “We are not against teachers and we sincerely want to solve all the genuine demands of teachers, but teachers cannot be allowed to resort to strikes and destroy the future of our new generation”.

He said that government sector educational institutions were being inspected on daily basis to see whether teachers were performing their duties or not.

He said that action against those teachers had been taken who remained away from performing their duties. Act which is supposed to be approved by the provincial cabinet provides for taking strict action under Balochistan Efficiency and Discipline Act, 2011 against those teachers who lock the schools and go on strike. If a teacher was found involved in violating the provision of Balochistan Educational Act, 2018, he will have to undergo one year imprisonment and pay five lack fine

On the other side leaders of different teacher unions of Balochistan are opposing the move of present government. They were of the view that in the said act imprisonment and fine had been incorporated which was not acceptable to the teachers and teachers unions would oppose and threatened to protest.
