Buildings of 15,978 schools in Sindh are unsatisfactory

LARKANA: Out of 42,383 schools of Sindh buildings, only 13,891 schools are satisfactory while the condition of 15,978 is unsatisfactory.

This was disclosed at a convention held under the auspices of Sindh Education Alliance (SEA) here late on Saturday night. The event was presided over by candidates of NA-200 and PS-11 of Larkana, Maulana Raashid Mahmood Soomro and Moazim Ali Abbasi respectively. A large number of people belonging to civil society and notables took part in it.

SEA Chairman Junaid Dahar said that preference had been given in constitution of every political party to education but it was tragic to note that except Awami Jhamoori Party, no other political party was serious about this basic and constitutional right of the people. He said education of Sindh was worst than Balochistan.

Educationist Mukhtiar Samo said that according to figures of Sindh Education Profile 2016-17, condition of 6,567 school buildings is very dangerous due to which any mishap can take place anytime and 16,567 schools are working under open sky even today, he added. Jamil Gad said that slogan of Roti, Kapra and Makan is not fulfilling the requirements of modern times, adding people of Sindh now require education on emergency basis because Sindh’s presence is affiliated with education and development.

He said PPP had failed to improve education system in the province despite being in the government since past 10 years adding education during their present tenure had gone from worse to worst. He said that people will have to wake up urgently now for their well being and future of their children otherwise everything will be ruined.

He said residents should cast their votes in favour of education-friendly candidate in the upcoming general elections to save future of Sindh. Candidate for NA-200 Raashid Mahmood Soomro said that Sindh Government obtained billions of rupees from the world bank and other financial institutions in the name of improving education system in the province but even today children of 84 schools of Larkana are getting education under open sky in this hot weather, in 97 schools there is just one classroom and 136 schools are without electricity.

He said there are only four elementary schools, 10 higher secondary schools, 32 middle schools and only 82 girls schools in NA-200 having population of more than one million people. He said it is very alarming situation which means that rulers don’t want educated people but they like to have illiterate people who keep on casting votes in their favour to prolong their rule without giving anything to the citizens. He said the residents will have to think before giving vote in the upcoming general elections otherwise they will loose everything. Candidate for PS-11 Moazim Abbasi said that no nation can develop without education. He said quality education is basic right of every child which must be obtained at all costs otherwise we will not be able to compete in the world.
