KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed local government department to complete one-track of Submarine Chowrangi underpass by next Sunday so that it could be opened for traffic on Monday.
He issued these directives while presiding over a meeting to review Karachi package schemes here at the CM House on Monday. The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Principal Secretary to CM, Sohail Rajput, Secretary P&D Shireen Narejo, PD Karachi Package Niaz Soomro, Engineer Khalid Mansoor, senior officers of P&D and finance departments and others.
The chief minister said that he was keen to start construction of Bridge at Intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Gizri Boulevard for Rs 700 million. “But this work would start in full swing when one track of Submarine Chowrangi underpass would be opened for traffic,” he said and directed local government minister to complete the work on the underpass by next Sunday so that he could be opened for traffic next Monday.”
The chief minister also discussed the scheme of bridge at Intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Gizri Boulevard for which work had been started. “I want to complete this scheme within three months as it is most important bridge and is located in residential area,” he said.
Shoro apprised the chief minister of the progress of different schemes and said that construction of road from Tank Chowrangi to Super Highway via Thadho Nalla launched at a cost of Rs 350 million was in full swing. He added that It would be an important alternate route for the traffic of Malir and its adjoining areas towards Super Highway and its related routes.
Shoro said that construction of Tipu Sultan Road from Shahrah-e-Faisal of Rs 280 million was a two kilometers road and its carpeting had been started. The work on bridge at Tipu Sultan and intersection at Shaheed-e-Millat Road was also in progress. It is a Rs515.18 million scheme.
The chief minister was also informed that the work on improvement of Cantt Railway Station Road had also been started at Rs 2240 million. The chief minister was also informed about other schemes, such as re-modelling of 12000 road, Landhi, construction of Rs650 million Fawara Chowk to Garden via Abdullah Haroon Road and back to Fawara Chowk, widening of bridge over Korangi Nalla near Habib Bank for Rs200 million, construction of storm-water drain from Hassan Square to Lyari River for Rs70 million and construction of Storm Water Drain (SWD) from Star Gate to Chakora Nalla, Shahrah-i-Faisal for Rs200 million.
The chief minister told the meeting that the mother of Lt Yasir Abbas who was killed in attack on Mehran Base had met him during his visit to Karachi Food Festival. She complained that nothing had been named behind her martyred son to remember his sacrifice in the history. “I have lot of respect for the mother who lost her son [Lt Yasir Abbas] in the defence of our homeland,” he said and directed local government minister Jam Khan Shoro to name under construction bridge on 12000 road behind the name of `Shaheed Lt Yasir Abbas’ so that his sacrifice and bravery could always be remembered.
