Director Health organize Breast Cancer awareness session

KARACHI: Directorate of Health Karachi organized a breast cancer awareness program in collaboration with Kash Welfare Trust at Director Health Office Karachi on Thursday.

The District Health Officers (DHOs) and Focal Persons of six districts of Karachi division attended the awareness session in which experts briefed the participants about early detection of breast cancer cases and management of such patients. They said if the cancer is detected at an early stage, chances of survival are upto 90 per cent.

Experts said 1 in 8 Pakistani women has become the patient of breast cancer and Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer in Asia. In rural areas, rural women are developing a great number of breast cancers every year because it is an inherited disease, which is transmitted from mother to daughter.

They also stressed the need of establishment of screening centers in all over the country to diagnose various type of cancer as every year a great number of women are dying due to breast cancer and others.

In second phase, DHOs and Focal Persons of six districts of Karachi division will hold breast cancer sessions in their respective districts to educate doctors about early detection and timely management of women suffering from breast cancer.
