Dog-bitten boy Hasnain lose battle for survival

KARACHI:A six-year-old Hasnain, who was bitten by stray dogs in Larkana about 27 days ago, succumbed to his injuries at National Institute of Child Health (NICH).

Director, National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Prof Dr Syed Jamal Raza, confirming the death of the child at NICH, said the boy had been infected with a severe medical condition called necrotizing fasciitis.

Hasnain was shifted to NICH after multiple injuries due to dog attack in Larakan, where doctors performed surgeries to save his life, but unfortunately, he could not survive.

Spokesperson for Provincial Health Minister said the body of Hasnain had been shifted o his home town by the family members for funeral and informed that a total of 24 people had died due to rabies related complications this year.

Health Minister Sindh has expressed grief and sorrow over the death of Hasnain. “I am deeply saddened by the news of Hasnain’s demise. We tried our best to provide quality treatment, but unfortunately, due to the infection spreading and Hasnain’s immune system being weak, he couldn’t survive. It is very difficult for a parents to bear child’s death. “I pray that the Almighty Allah may give his family the strength and patience to bear this irreparable loss.

DC Larkana has been instructed to facilitate the family in the last rights of the child. The Sindh government is working towards neutering and vaccinating dogs and we are hoping that once that is done dog bite cases will reduce, said Dr Azra Pechuho, Minister for Health and Population Welfare Sindh.
