Family demands treatment of electrocuted child from abroad

KARACHI: The family members of eight-year-old Umer who lost his both arms due to electrocution in Ahsanabad area of Karachi have demanded of the authorities of K-Electric (KE) to bear all expanses for treatment of their child from a foreign country as no advance prosthesis treatment facilities are available in Pakistan for children with amputated arms.

Father of eight year old boy, Mohammad Arif said unfortunate incident was reported on the third day Eid when Umer, a student of class two went to nearby shop to purchase pampers of younger brother in Ahsanabad area of Karachi when suddenly a high tension wire fell on him and his hands caught fire.

The family members shifted the child to the Karachi Burns Centre for treatment where doctors amputated both his arms as they were badly burnt due to the electric shock. His condition is out of danger but still he is under observation.

The residents of Ahsanabad had lodged several complains to K-electric for replacement of old high tension wires and crackdown on illegal connections in their area but no action has been taken in regard. As a result, my son Umer had lost his arms to due criminal negligence of KE, complained the father. He demanded justice from authorities concerned, treatment of his child from Germany and payment of compensation for family; otherwise, the family member will take legal action against K-Electric.

However, Imran Ismail, the governor of Sindh, took notice of the incident and summoned a report from the KE officials in this regard.

The local PTI MNA and MPA also assured the family full support.

Another 12 year old boy Haris resident of Surjani town areas of Karachi was electrocuted while playing on roof of a building. The child was playing on the roof July 25, 2018 when he accidently touched high tension wire. The half of his arm was amputated by the doctors and he is still under treatment at Burns Centre Karachi.

Head of Burns Center, Karachi, Dr Ehmer-Al-Ibran, while talking to PPI, said condition of both children is out of danger but they are still under observation. He said both children would be referred to the rehabilitation department for further treatment.
